Top Tennis “A” League Showdown

Another week of inter-county tennis in Toronto. This time we were in Markham tennis club where Henry Farm tennis “A” league teams faces the Markham tennis club “A” league team. It is about 26 degrees Celsius, with a chance of thunderstorm around 8:00 p.m. E.T. This match is the second head to head match between Henry Farm and Markham tennis club. The home club has provided food and beverages for players and spectators to enjoy with the evening matches. There are a total of 40 people in the tennis facility including the players from both teams. This makes up for 24 players/coaches, and 16 spectators.

It was a tough matchup for Henry farm, and Markham came prepared to battle. The Markham tennis team came out with WTA player Lauren Chypaya and other sound players, to compete against the elite team makeup of Henry Farm Tennis Club. Henry farm made the adjustments and were able to come out with a victory with wins from Men’s 1 Doubles 6-2,6-1, Mixed 1 Doubles 6-0,6-2, Women’s 1 Doubles lost a tough one 6-2,7-5. Other victories from Henry Farm came from the position 2 Mixed Doubles 7-5, 7-5, and Men’s position 2 doubles 6-4,6-3.

We had the opportunity to speak with the Henry Farm Tennis Club Captain Pablo Muzlera, to get his thoughts on what this match means for the team, and areas they could improve in.

Muzlera states, “ The team fought hard today, we came into the match knowing how strong this team is, they are second ranked in the league, and have always been our toughest competitors. This match would have proved us to be a Major’s League quality team, and was our ticket into the playoff tournament next month. I was really surprised with the turnout of the crowd as well. Areas we could improve in would be to have a better solid foundation in terms of positioning in doubles and communicating as the different doubles pairings are formed. It is an adjustment the players would have to adapt to playing with someone new each week if need be, but it was great tennis all around, I am proud to be the captain of this team and such a talented group of players!”

We also had the opportunity to speak with Nelson Perez on the Henry Farm Tennis Team on his match playing #1 men’s doubles and how he feels to be part of this team.

Perez shares “ It is a lot of fun, I consider this team to be my second family. We have great chemistry, and playing at the number 1 position for men’s doubles, I have the opportunity to compete against and play with world-class players. It’s awesome! “

Next we got a few insights on the opposing team’s leading women’s player Lauren Chypaya on the matchup between the two top teams in the league. Chypaya states “ We lost to Henry Farm once again. They are a strong team and currently number one in the league. I think our players definitely gave it there all out there, we were worried that it would rain because of the thunderstorm warnings, but it was good to get all the matches played outdoor today. We are going to have to take this match, and learn from it to get ready and better ourselves for the upcoming matches we have. We also loved having the support of the community for coming out and watching, it made playing much more fun knowing we had our fans out there cheering us on and enhancing the competitive atmosphere! “

Finally, as a spectator at this league match, I must add, tennis is a great sport. You can come and enjoy matches with friends and family members and still have fun and be entertainment outside of the tennis stadium environment. Thank you Markham Tennis Club for hosting the event and Henry Farm Tennis Club for granting me the opportunity to make this happen.
